More angry lizard guy

I did a quick draw over of the basic lizard guy to make him a bit less cute (though I love the original with all my heart).  I tried to get some of those pangolin scales in there

That's like a splice between my first design and the redesign.

  2. So, before I continue with Lizardmen designs, are we going to be sticking with the paper model silhouette or not?

My personal preference would be not sticking to the paper model. But I need a final word on what direction should be taken so progress can be made.

  3. The paper model's pose feel is good and angry. Obviously, you don't have to stick with it. It's our project, and if it looks good and works, great.
My concern, though, is that for the original lizard drawing silhouette that didn't relate to the model, it didn't convey scary, or angry, or anything like what we need. I'm sure you can make it work without following the paper silhouette, but make sure to keep that stuff in mind.

Marshall Vandruff said this about composition in specific, but it applies to design in general: take your image. Put a piece of shower glass over it. if the mood still reads, then you've done a good job. If not, keep working.

A usefull thing to do is, before you go into rendering, or even a detailed drawing, block out the silhouette you're gonna use. Then use photoshop, or squint, or sumthing to make it really blurry, or tiny, like postage stamp-ish. Does it look mean?? Does it read as a lizard man? Does it look crappy?

  4. I'm going to scrap my remake and return to the design I originally had. If it's just a matter of silhouette adjustment all I have to do is give him more flashy armor. Easy as that. :P
