Here's what I got for the main character's hometown/village/forest thing. I tried to incorporate what we've got so far. The verticals are like roman columns. I'm thinking the lights are either windows or the equivalent of street lights. 
If this town was in a war, it wouldn't be too defensible, so I'm thinking this place has stayed safe because it is hidden and remote.
 
I'm not sure if the mood is working, so tell me if you think it should be different (and why? XD)

    I was thinking this could be the buildings in general. I could do a layout of the town itself, but I don't think we actually need to go that far with it yet.
